Okayama Kobo Bakery & Cafe

If there’s one thing I never say no to, it’s freshly baked bread—especially when it’s shaped like an adorable bear. Cute and delicious? Say less.

Tucked away in downtown Anaheim, Okayama Kobo Bakery & Cafe is one of my favorite hidden gems. This must-visit Japanese bakery in Anaheim is filled with unique flavors—both sweet and savory—that make every visit unforgettable.

Whether you’re a local or just passing through Orange County, this cozy café is the kind of place that instantly feels like home. With the warm aroma of bread baking, delicious lattes, and golden pastries perfectly lined up in display cases, it’s everything a bakery should be.

What to OrdeR

Here are my top recommendations—perfect if you’re visiting for the first time or looking to try something new.

Kobo Kuma (Bear-Shaped Bread with Custard)

An absolute must-try! The Kobo Kuma is a soft, fluffy roll shaped like a bear and filled with smooth vanilla bean custard. The designs change daily. Sometimes these cute bears will be wearing glasses glasses, sometimes bows, and always adorable.

Chocolate Emoji Bun

If chocolate is more your style, but still want something cute and sweet try a Chocolate Emoji. This sweet bun comes different animal designs and is filled with rich dark chocolate and vanilla custard cream. The vanilla is subtle, so the chocolate really shines.

Salt & Butter Rolls (Classic or Flavored)

Salt bread lovers, rejoice! There are five different flavors, but the classic Salt & Butter Roll is perfectly fluffy and buttery with just the right touch of salt.

Feeling adventurous? Try the try the Red Bean Salt & Butter Roll filled with red bean paste, or the Mentai Salt & Butter Roll which is topped with spicy cod roe and seaweed.

Matcha Mochi Anpan

This one’s for the matcha fans! Take your taste buds on a sweet adventure with this soft matcha bun filled with sweet red bean, and mochi. If you really want matcha, but just aren’t a fan of red bean, try the Matcha Sunrise.

Curry Pan

There is just something so delicious about curry wrapped in warm bread. This baked, panko-crusted bun is filled with original Japanese style vegetable curry. There’s also a spicy version if you want a little heat.

Coffee (and More) to Match

Of course, no bakery visit is complete without a good drink in hand!

While you still have option to order a standard coffee, like a latte or americano, the specialties are even better!

For coffee lovers, try the Matcha Sea Salt Coldbrew. A simple cold brew mixed with caramel and topped with sea salt matcha foam.

If you’re in the mood for tea, the Strawberry Matcha is a must. And honestly, it might just be one of the best matcha lattes in the area.

Plan Your Visit

Go early—popular items sell out fast, sometimes within one hour of opening. There is almost always a line, but it moves quickly with short wait times.

Pre-order online for next day pick-up. Limited to five bread items.

For more than five items, order by phone for same day pick-up or at a later time.
