DIY Satin Lace Skirt

I've been dreaming of sewing a pink, satin skirt for the longest time!

Every time I found a skirt I loved it was either way too expensive or already out of stock. So I decided that I would design my own and do my best to sew it. I’m still a beginner with the sewing machine so this project was a little challenge when it came to adding a zipper.

However, it’s a simple a-line pattern for anyone who wants to sew their own skirt. For my size, I purchased a yard and a half of satin. Then half a yard of lace. I still had a some extra left over of each fabric, which was great because I messed up on the waist area once or twice!

Satin is a bit of a delicate fabric, but still sturdy enough to make mistakes. Whenever I had to redo stitches, removing the thread was easy enough that it didn’t tear or ruin the materials.

After I was satisfied with the fit, I hand sewed the lace because I didn’t want it to get stuck in the sewing machine, plus the design wasn’t just a straight line. Then I also hand sewed ribbons up the side of the skirt as a finishing touch.
