Slip Dress Thrift Flip

I've always found thrifting to be a complex topic of discussion, yet also an affordable solution to having fun with fashion. There are so many great fashion pieces just waiting for a second chance. My personal issue though is that I can never seem to find anything that properly fits me.

Growing up, I was always crafting some sort of lopsided garment to enhance my imagination while playing. Yet I never figured out how to use a sewing machine and I'm not that great at hand sewing either. So for several years now, I just dismissed my ideas of altering my own clothes.

But with my increased desire to avoid fast fashion and expensive alternatives, I decided to give thrifting another try in order to fit my budget and revive my love for unique fashion pieces.

I discovered this beautiful floral nightie and immediately had a vision of what I wanted to create! The straps were no longer functional and it seemed like the sides had already been altered. But overall, the dress was still in excellent condition. Now I just had to conquer the sewing part!

Fortunately I already had leftover pink ribbon in my crafting box and tons of thread. So the only extra material I purchased was the elastic string for the loops. My total for this dress with materials turned out to be about ten dollars.

Start to finish took about two days due to the fact that when I first sewed the sides, the dress was still too big on me. I had to deconstruct it a second time, loops and all, then attempt to figure out the correct measurements and hope for the best. Honestly, I probably could have altered it a bit more, but I really did not want to redo my sewing for a third time. Hand sewing can be quite tiring!

While it's not the best construction, I'm still very happy with how everything turned out! It's now a completely functional dress.
