Upcycled Nightgown

Recently I discovered this beautiful nightgown when thrifting. It was in such great condition, the details were beautiful and I just loved the color. An idea immediately popped into my mind when I saw it, so I just knew it was meant to be.

One of my goals this year has been to transform unwanted items into wearable piecesā€” whether that be from my own closet or a thrifted item. For so long I felt like I could never actually find pieces that fit me properly and almost gave up on thrifting and my ideas in general. While I do know how to hand-sew, it does take quite a bit of time and is a little sloppy when it comes to the final product.

However, I was determined to give it one more try! The nightgown fell under my budget and I had extra materials at home, so I figured there was no harm in chopping it up to see if my idea could be brought to life.

This whole project took a little over a week to finish sewing the skirt and top. I knew exactly how I wanted the skirt as I already knew how to make a basic circle skirt. I used the bottom hem of the dress for the waist for a cleaner look. Then added lace trim and a zipper.

However, my idea for the top changed several times. I considered leaving the top as it was and just hemming the bottom. More than anything, I think I was hesitant to cut the top and ruin it. But, I wanted the top to look a bit more modern which resulted in cutting it down the middle, adding short little puff sleeves, and of course, more ribbons!
