Burnt Umber Coffee ft. Petals & Poison Tea Room recently opened in Garden Grove, serving specialty coffee and tea. Don’t let appearances fool you, this gothic themed café is one-of-a-kind and worth visiting any time of the year. I’ve been wanting to check this place out since summer!

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Burnt Umber Coffee perfectly encapsulates a dark Victorian mood with beautifully haunting paintings and aesthetic furnishings. I absolutely love the whole atmosphere paired with friendly staff members. The entrance is quite small though, so visiting on a busy morning felt a bit crowded and overwhelming.

BARISTAS

I always appreciate when a barista shares their personal favorites instead of just listing off what is on the menu. Might seem silly, but it does help when deciding what to get even if we have different tastes.

And even though it was busy, everyone was friendly and patient with each customer.

DRINKS

Just for the coffee, I would visit again.

I decided to get the Scarborough Fair Latte and it did not disappoint. I love a good rosemary latte and the fact that this drink is not a seasonal item is even better! Most coffee shops don’t offer rosemary, so whenever I see one on the menu I can’t resist.

It was the perfect balance of flavors and paired nicely with the sweet cream on top. The only thing I could do without is the bee pollen as I didn’t feel like it added anything except for aesthetics. And I love a good aesthetic, I just didn’t like the texture.

My friend tried the Harvest Moon Latte and it happened to be her favorite out of the two! On first sip, it tasted like a typical brown sugar latte. But if I gave it another try I’d love to see if I could spot the notes of warm spices and orange bitters.

For a unique experience, check out Burnt Umber Coffee! The drinks have their own unique charm and are fully customizable to fit your preferences. One day I’ll have to try the Rococo Matcha Latte and sit in to try their food.
