Halloween Inspired Drinks

Spooky season has officially begun! While most of the world is cooling down and sipping on hot beverages, it is still very hot in SoCal with some days reaching 90°F. But I still want to enjoy all the festivities of Halloween. And that includes the festive drinks!

I'm a huge coffee lover, so most of these options are iced lattes. However, these drinks can be easily modified and also be made hot or cold.

Not-So-Basic PSL

Add a hauntingly good twist to the classic pumpkin spice latte by using black cocoa powder. Black cocoa powder doesn't affect the taste and is a great natural alternative to charcoal powder or food dye. The Not-So-Basic PSL also uses pumpkin puree so you know your latte is a real one.

The Zombie Latte

This creation is a literal zombie of a drink, however all the flavors actually mix quite well together. The Zombie Latte is a mixture of coffee, matcha, chocolate, and strawberry. The key to the “brains” is to overfill your cup with ice. However, it can be quite messy so it’s totally optional. But still a fun experience!

Vampire’s Kiss

For a little spiced bite try Vampire’s Kiss aka the Red Velvet Latte. This drink uses beetroot powder to get that natural red color. My favorite beetroot powder is actually from Blume because it tastes just like cinnamon-y sweet spices and mixes well with so many different drinks.

Ghost Town

Creating Ghost Town is a fun little party trick because the espresso slips right through the ice and milk instead of settling on top. In order to achieve the ghostly experience, mix your syrup and black cocoa powder with your espresso first. Top with a marshmallow to bring the whole festive look together.

Witch’s Brew Hot Chocolate

Black cocoa powder is honestly a hero when it comes to creating Halloween-inspired drinks. The Witch’s Brew Hot Chocolate can simply be made with white chocolate and orange food dye, but I’m even lazier and used a hot cocoa bomb with mini marshmallows instead. Then I just stirred in a little bit of powder.
