Wantable Style Edit: Is It Worth It?
Every now and then I feel like I’m in a fashion rut. Online shopping becomes boring and I just don’t know how I want to style myself. I’m also the type of person who dislikes ordering only one item from various stores as I’d rather just have everything all in one order.
To try and solve this dilemma, I decided to try Wantable— a try-before-you-buy clothing subscription service with expert personal stylists to help find the perfect pieces.
How It Works
Wantable claims to make shopping easier with fresh new pieces personalized to your style along with free shipping & returns.
You first take a quiz to share your style, fit and price range. There are four different Edits to choose from: Style, Active, Sleep & Body, and Men’s. Every Edit features a curated box of seven stylist-selected items to freshen your wardrobe. There’s also an opportunity to request specific items afterward when you place your order!
Once you receive your package, you have five days to keep or return any of the items. Plus an additional week to ship your items back.
Unboxing
While I did request some items, I was excited to see what my stylist had put together! My first impressions were that the packaging was simple and beautiful. I love how the clothing was laid out with a nice color scheme, satisfying my appreciation for a good aesthetic.
All my requested items were included, so I had three stylist-picked pieces. Upon seeing everything that was picked out, I had very mixed opinions. So it was time to try everything on before making any firm decisions.
JEANS
This was the first item I had requested. I always have difficulty finding jeans that I love, so it was a pleasant surprise with how nice they felt. The fit and length were exactly what I was looking for. I also love that the jeans are eco-friendly and also include the brand’s messaging.
While I ultimately decided not to keep the jeans because of the multiple buttons, I’m definitely going to browse Daze Denim. Having all those buttons just makes me feel a bit self-conscious as those types of jeans tend to look a little bulkier in the front, but that is only my own personal preference.
CAMI TOP & CARDIGAN
Honestly, I feel as if I was transported back to my high school days. Even if I didn’t style these pieces together, personally these clothing pieces feel dated and just not my style. I love florals, but the print isn’t something I would pick. The pink cardigan was also soft, but I didn’t enjoy how it fit.
Unfortunately, both were picked by the stylist. Even with a quiz and instructions, translating personal style through text can be a bit difficult.
FLORAL TOP
I actually love the brand Lost + Wander, so when I saw this item on the list I was curious to try it on. It’s such a cute top and can transition from summer to fall. However, I was hesitant to make a purchase because I wasn’t absolutely in love.
However, the great thing about rediscovering this brand is that I now have another shop on my radar for when I want to do some online shopping.
EARRINGS
To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I didn’t even try the earrings on because of all the debris in the box. And when I turned to look at the backs of the earrings, they looked dirty and crusty.
On top of that, they were just an expensive pair of earrings! Customer service did reach out during the return process to apologize with a $15 credit.
FLORAL DRESS
I love the style and print of the dress, but again there were some quality issues. The threads in the front of the dress were loose and even with a double layer, the dress was see-through.
While a little sewing could easily fix this dress, ultimately I decided it wouldn’t be a part of my wardrobe.
Final Thoughts
Personally, I don’t think Wantable is for me. With questionable quality and higher priced items it’s hard to want to give Wantable another chance. The stylist didn’t fit with my own clothing interests, but I think with time they might understand what I’m looking for. With all my requests being fulfilled, I might as well just do the shopping myself.
On a positive note, the customer service is one of the better ones I’ve experienced. Especially for a subscription box. They were fast to reply after the reviews and tried to rectify any mistakes.
I also loved finding new brands and seeing how the clothes fit. I can freely return the items with no hassle and check out their own websites to see if anything else interests me.
