When was the last time you actually reused a candle container?

The idea of sustainability is often easier said than done. After years of glass candle containers being burnt and stained along with branded stickers being difficult to remove I just didn't see any practical use for keeping such containers. Tins often get tossed and lids discarded. As much as I'd like to reuse these containers, I just don't.

I've also lived in several areas where recycling isn't easily accessible. Many apartment complexes and other home rentals don't even offer recycling pick-up. I know for a fact that tons of recyclable items get thrown in the trash as that is usually an easier option than driving to a recycling center, especially if you only have a couple items. Realistically, sustainability is just an effort that isn't always favorable to certain lifestyles.

FLORA was created in order to help reduce the amount of waste surrounding candles and make sustainability just a little bit more convenient. While plastic casings are an issue, glass and metal containers are the biggest culprits that end up in landfills for up to 1,000 years.

Instead of glass or tin, FLORA uses multipurpose ceramic bowls that are microwave and dishwasher safe. Ceramic is also one of the most natural materials you can use in your home interior designs. It’s durable, long-lasting, and takes less energy to produce.

Once you're done with the candle simply pour hot water into the bowl. The water will melt the candle wax, causing it to float to the surface of the container. Afterwards, the bowl can be used to hold other candles, plants, small items, or even food as long as you properly clean it. Because I strive to reduce the amount of waste in daily life, all other small candles do not have containers as there are so many options for reusable candle stands.

Each candle is hand poured using soy wax and non-toxic, phthalate-free fragrances. The dried floral arrangements make every candle unique and slightly different as all the flowers are hand selected and vary throughout the seasons.

I've combined my love for nature and appreciation for simple, beautiful aesthetics into FLORA. Reducing the amount of waste in your life takes time, but little steps can make a huge impact. My goal is to donate a part of the proceeds from each sale to The Sierra Club Foundation, a non-profit environmental organization that promotes climate solutions, conservation, and more.
