Wear A Mask

I'm frustrated. You're frustrated. We're all frustrated!

Recently, the number of COVID-19 cases have spiked significantly in California. Overall, the US is lacking the ability to reduce infection rates. You can argue that this is because there has been an increase in testing, but that doesn't negate the fact that hospitals are still overwhelmed and are hitting their limit of available resources. Even back in March when I had painful symptoms from the flu, my doctor took an extra 25 minutes to find a proper mask after I was admitted into the room.

This pandemic isn't just going to magically vanish in a matter of weeks or months. It is getting worse, it is very real and a good portion of people seem to disregard the serious nature of the virus. COVID-19 is a viral disease that can be spread from person to person via droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Wearing a mask doesn't infringe on your freedoms. It is there to not only protect yourself, but also protect the people that are in the same vicinity as you. We can help reduce the rate of infections and deaths simply by wearing a face mask.

Believe what you want, but in my opinion our society is being selfish right now. Or maybe even in denial. An increasing amount of people are beginning to leave their homes again, hold social gatherings, or are failing to properly cover their face. And it’s perfectly okay to get out when you need some fresh air, but take proper precautions.

I agree, wearing a mask or staying at home for long periods of time kind of sucks sucks! Especially when you live in a hot environment or have trouble keeping the mask secure. But, for the time being put aside overly selfish desires for the safety of yourself and others. These are minor inconveniences when everyone's health is concerned. And such inconveniences could go away a lot faster if we all understood the importance of taking these steps to keep distance and cover up.

There are so many different non-medical protective masks that will cater to your needs. So, wear a mask! Once you've returned to your car or home you don't have to wear it! Wearing a mask is only a small blip of time in your day. And that small amount of wear time can save lives.

I personally have two different kinds of masks because I have a small face and sometimes the combination of hot weather and anxiety can make it harder to breathe when wearing certain masks. Plus, being into fashion, I might as well enjoy the kind of mask I wear!

Soft Cotton Mask

I wear this one when I'm quickly popping in and out of multiple places and know I'll be back home in less than an hour. It’s easy to slip on and off when I’m in the car.

Pros

Lightweight

Comfortable

More Affordable

Easy to take on and off

Cons

Slips off nose very easily

Solution: Pin straps to hair

Sturdy Cotton Mask

I wear this one for longer trips outside as it is more secure and the stiffer material leaves more breathing room. Plus, it really helps hold my glasses in place!

Pros

Stylish

Lightweight, comfortable

Adjustable straps for a secure fit

Great if you wear glasses

Easier to breathe in

Cons

Pricier, but worth it

Harder to slip on and off as you please

Solution: Only wear for long trips to one place

Currently, there is no vaccine for COVID-19. So, remember to take the proper preventative measures by washing your hands, staying home when you are sick, and wearing a face covering if you can't practice physical distancing.

Together we can overcome this if we all stay diligent!
